The aircraft were engaged in a lease arrangement with the Russian carrier, Joint Stock Company Rossiya Airlines (Rossiya), an Aeroflot Group wing, at the time they found themselves in the unfortunate strife in Ukraine back in February 2022.

Payouts were provided by the Russian insurance agency, Limited Liability Company Insurance Company NSK (NSK). The settlements initiated the release of any outstanding claims against NSK, Rossiya, their parent establishment Aeroflot, and any international reinsurers tied to the aircraft and their fitted engines. The necessary approvals for these transactions were provided by the US Treasury Department and were in accordance with other relevant sanction regulations in place.
